Ideas about making your film
Important things to consider
- Make sure you choose a category that you feel strongly about and that really inspires you.
- Have discussions with others.
- Plan your ideas thoroughly.
- Draw a storyboard of ideas which includes timings, camera angles and content.
- Don’t be afraid to leave out information as you only have 3 minutes. Make your video informative but don’t fill it with too much information so that it becomes complicated.
- The video should have a beginning (Introduction) middle (discussion) and end (conclusion and suggestions).
- Your message should be clear to understand, exciting and inspiring to watch.
- Keep a note of what the judges will be looking for:
- Clarity of the message.
- Creativity in the presentation of the message.
- Presentation of positive and achievable suggestions.
- Enjoy the making of your film!
Think about your favourite Film/ Television programme/ advert etc. What is it about these that captivates you and makes you want to watch them?
Is it the:
- use of colour
- story line
- graphics
- acting
- lighting
- setting
- music
Can you think of different ways or presenting your ideas through film?
- will you present it like a play using actors?
- will it be made using a documentary style?
- will it be interview based?
- you could use dance or music to express an idea!
- Will you use animation? For example, clay modelling, hand drawn or cartoon images?
- will audio be your key method of portraying your message or will images speak for you?
- You could try researching different film techniques. For example: green screening where you can overlay different frames using a green or blue background to develop unusual settings and situations.

"If I could change one thing in education then I would introduce a course,
taught in schools and colleges, teaching young people how to deal with the
issues of tomorrow: economic, environmental, and other issues slowly
affecting us all, like terrorism. It would make young people more
politically aware, and some would go on to become the politicians of
tomorrow."
